Embryo's

I was reading my Parenting Magazine last night and read an article about people who freeze their eggs and then, once they have all of the children that they desire, they are left with the decision of what to do with the frozen embryo's still stored. WOW. What a decision to have to make. Some of the women couldn't decide to just keep paying the monthly storage fee (costly), donate, destroy or have them implanted at a time when they know the eggs will not take. While I can not say what I would do unless I was actually in their shoes, I would think that I would want to donate them to a couple who I knew really, really wanted a baby and could not conceive or could not afford to buy the eggs from a donor. I know for a fact that I would not let a Dr implant me knowing that the egg would not fertilize on purpose just to make me feel better by not having to destroying them. Yes, there are Dr's that do that procedure.

A few months ago there was an article in Cosmo that talked about young girls selling their eggs for a large chunk of change. Personally, I do not see anything wrong with that. It might come down to religious beliefs for some people. I don't think that I could ever do that because I always wanted a child, even as a young girl. I would have been afraid that I would deplete my supply before I was really ready even though I know you are born with a million eggs. There is the debate on if you can actually handle the fact that there are children out there that are biologically yours and you don't know anything about them or if you pass them on the street.

What a huge debate....... thoughts??????

As a woman who has no eggs of her own who does plan on seeing if in vitro with donated eggs is an option for me some day. Given my situation, I think woman that donate whether for money or so they don't have to destroy them, I think it is an amazing gift that they give to women like me! ;)

I would donate mine to a woman who couldn't produce her own eggs. And the key word there is DONATE. If I needed the money, I would sell my eggs because I would know that what I can't use is being given to someone who has a dream of being a mother like "The Dish" By the way honey, you can have my eggs if you need them. Destroying them I have a problem with.

TD: I'm going to read that article again to see if there is anyone to contact about checking on the eggs that woman may want to donate. It's a gift that I would do in a heartbeat for you! I'll check on the article and email you back later this evening. :) Hang in there sweetie.

I have a friend who got pregnant with a donated egg. She was thrilled as she and her husband had been trying a long time and she was in her 40s already (they had one son already). I know she was grateful and feels like her family is complete. I'm all about the donating.

Agree with the donating! NOT the SELLING! Bitchy - I'm available too! ;)

If anyone wanted my drunken eggs I would certainly donate them! I don't really understand the motive for freezing eggs if you are able to have children, but if you do, it is an incredible gift to something like The Dish.

As for selling them for cash, I think regardless, it goes towards a good purpose, creating human life.
